Holiday Rush

What was my favourite xmas present of all time? Well my new puppy ranks right up there. But honestly I would probably have to go with the SEGA Master System my brother and I got when I was roughly 8 or 9. That xmas gift changed my life. Before that fateful xmas morning I had little interest in videogaming. We hadn’t owned any consoles before the Master System(unless you include the TRS 80). But after hours of Space Harrier, Ghostbusters, and Quartet, I became a crack gamer. Or well gaming became my crack...depends on your perspective. But good or bad, it’s undeniable that my interest in gaming lead to my current vocation. And my interest was initially sparked by that amazing gift... Read More...

End Of An Era

In 1999, I had my first taste of how cool the internet could be. In 1999, there was no Facebook, YouTube, or MySpace. Instead, people relied on GeoCities to pronounce their love of Dean Cain. Google was just a search engine. And for me, a diehard Apple fanatic, I was able to watch a live streaming event of Steve Jobs’ keynote address at MacWorld. It was at this MacWorld that Apple unveiled the Blue & White G3 tower. A form factor that has influenced every tower that Apple has made since... Read More...

You Don't Have To Go Home, But You Can't Stay Here

Ok, Home launched last week, and I just don’t get it. Do we really need another shopping sim? I mean, isn’t Sony a little late to the party here with this one? Before I go any further, I’ll come clean and admit that I do not have a PS3, nor have I had a chance to actually try Home. But I honestly don’t want to. My beef with Home isn’t with how well or poorly it is put together. It’s with the actual concept of Home and why I don’t think it works in todays gaming landscape... Read More...

Portably potent

A few days ago, I was in EBgames going through the PSP titles. They have this sale going on, and I figured there might be a game in there that might pique my interest in the poor little sony handheld. And there it was...God Of War: Chains Of Olympus. I’m an Xbox fan. My reasoning behind my console preference is that I mostly am not interested in the different game franchises on the playstation consoles. God Of War is the exception. I’ve secretly coveted the awesomeness of this franchise, but I’m seriously not going to buy a PS2 or PS3 just to play one game. And when Chains Of Olympus first came out on the PSP, I had a hard time justifying the $60 purchase price in order to play a portable game. But there it was....for $17.83 Australian dollars used. I could not pass this up... Read More...

Idiotic mission objectives

This one annoys me to no end. We’ve all witnessed it in games. It’s the really dumb mission objectives. There’s a couple of different flavours I’m going to talk about today. The mission objectives that leave you scratching your head as to why on earth you’ve been asked to do such a menial task(read: fetch missions). And the objectives that get completely invalidated once you finish a level... Read More...

Excellent trend in sports games

3 words for you. Be A Pro. The “Be A Pro” mode that you find in the most recent EA sports games is something I’ve been desperately wanting for years now. I’m a big hockey fan. A Canucks fan to be more specific. And I can tell you that since we started seeing 3D hockey games, I’ve desperately wanted to play a sort of role playing game revolving around myself as a virtual hockey player... Read More...

Really damned important!

There’s been some important games in the past. Of course “Super Mario Brothers”, “Doom”, and “Grand Theft Auto III” are deserving of that label. Well you can add another game to that list. And you can’t even buy it in a store... Read More...

Synchronicity

So the “New Xbox Experience”(NXE) dropped last month. And at first I was a little lukewarm in my reception to it. Mostly because it is such a departure from the last Xbox(experience?!?!). That and I really think avatars are such a “me too” gimmick, trying to copy what Nintendo did with Mii’s. But now that I’ve had some serious time with it, I’m beginning to really like my time with this new incarnation of the Xbox GUI... Read More...

Conformity damnit!

Ok, well this is my biggest of my pet peeves. So I figured, why not start off my “They Just Don’t Get It” segment with a bang. So here goes...DRM(Digital Rights Management). Unless you have been living under a rock, you are probably already very familiar with DRM. And more than likely infuriated by it as much as I am. But I’m going to explain just why it annoys me so... Get off my lawn!

It’s 1998. Chances are you’re getting pretty sick of hearing “Truly Madly Deeply” by Savage Garden on the radio. You’ve just watched “Saving Private Ryan” for the third time in theatres and are wondering if anyone would ever make a WWII shooter. And you’re probably also wondering when Seamus Blackley would get on with releasing “Jurassic Park: Trespasser”... Read More...

Inflexibly infuriating

I’m rather sick today. For most that would mean chucking a sick day, and kicking back to play games. But I work from home, so unless I’m bedridden, I’ve got to work. Thankfully my editing often times requires me to encode hours of video(which can take hours to do). So I figured I would try out that shiny new Mirror’s Edge demo that I downloaded over a week ago... The first post

Well, here it is. The first blog post on jadedgamerblog.com. Chances are, you stumbled onto this site nowhere close to the date that this post was added. But If by some remote chance you are here anywhere close to jadedgamerblog’s inception, you’re probably wondering what the purpose of this site is. Well, to be honest it’s kind of a vehicle for me to both gripe about, and praise the game industry for the things that I see them doing both right and wrong... Read More...
